Question What is the child restraint law in Indiana?
Answer

Child passenger restraint for children under 4 years of age, (IC 9-19-11-2):

A person who operates a motor vehicle in which there is a child less than four years of age who is not properly fastened and restrained by a child passenger restraint system commits a violation, D-infraction. If it is reasonably determined that the child will not fit in a child passenger restraint system the child must be secured with a seat belt.

Question What is the curfew law and times?
Answer

Curfew law for juveniles under the age of 17 years old, (IC 31-37-3):

Indiana has a new curfew law for teenagers. A bill was recently signed that makes it illegal for youths, 17 years and 16 years old, to be in a public place without a parent or guardian after 11:00 pm and before 5:00 am Sundays through Thursdays and after 1:00am and before 5:00 am on Friday and Saturday nights. Juveniles 15 years old or younger have a curfew time of no later than 11:00 pm and before 5:00 am everyday of the week. These times and days have no influence on whether school is in session or not.

Some exceptions are included in the curfew law:

  • If the juvenile is attending a school sanctioned activity
  • Attending a religious event
  • Engaged in lawful employment
  • Accompanied by an adult specified by the child's parent, guardian or custodian
  • Attending an activity conducted by a non-profit or governmental entity that provides recreation, education, training or other care supervised by one or more adults
  • An emergency situation involving the protection of a person or property from an imminent threat of serious bodily injury or substantial damage.

Question What is the city ordinance regarding skate boarding?
Answer

Roller skating and skate boarding in the streets, (64.10):

No person or persons upon roller skates, skateboard or riding in or by means of any coaster, toy vehicle, or similar device shall go upon any roadway except while crossing a street on a crosswalk. No person or persons upon roller skates, skateboard or riding in or by means of any toy vehicle, coaster or similar device shall go on any sidewalk or alleyway in any commercially-zoned area within the corporate limits of the city.

Question What is the law regarding tinted glass in vehicles?
Answer

Tinted or glazed windows on vehicles, (IC 9-19-19):

A person may not drive a motor vehicle that has a windshield, side wing, side window that is part of a front door or rear back window that is covered by or treated with sunscreening material or is tinted to the extent or manufactured in a way that the occupants of the vehicle cannot be easily identified or recognized through that window from outside the vehicle. Windows tinted that block more that 25%  of the light become illegally tinted.
